National Park Week 2020

Although we wish we were at Shenandoah National Park to enjoy spring flowers and Junior Ranger Day, we can still explore from home during National Park Week.

SNP Trust is offering a number of virtual ways to engage with Shenandoah National Park and celebrate National Park Week from home!

1) Become a Shenandoah Virtual Ranger

Start by checking out our post on Shenandoah virtual tours by 59×59 project creator, Darius Nabors. Explore the wild world of virtual reality alongside Darius with Shenandoah virtual tours, A Virtual Ranger program, and a few other fun quizzes to engage with on Instagram.
“For National Park Week I have created seven different virtual tours of Shenandoah National Park. The tours will take you down Skyline Drive, and on hikes to visit some of the parks most popular peaks and summits, as well as its most popular waterfalls. I hope that you enjoy these tours, and that they inspire you to visit this wonderful place in person!
Darius Nabors offers up tour a day, so visit his website each day to see a new site at Shenandoah National Park. Also, if you become a Virtual Ranger, you can get a super neat sticker. Ten percent of proceeds go to SNP Trust! Get your Virtual Passport stamped over at America’s National Parks.

2) Pop-Up Livestream, on Instagram Live

Each afternoon and evening during National Park Week, head over to our Instagram page for a new artist associated with Shenandoah. We’ve got a number of surprises. Bring out your oil paints, cameras, and musical instruments and experience a number of appearances by past Artists-in-Residence and local talent!

3) Earth Day

The 50th anniversary of Earth Day is this Wednesday and there a number of ways to celebrate! Check out a few of our park partners to follow their events on their digital channels:
Sierra Club gives us a number of greener ways to be on Earth Day and beyond.
Earth Day Live is a worldwide celebration, with millions of participants and too many events to type!
Shenandoah National Park is offering virtual tours, movie nights and other interactive features.

4)  ParkRx Day

This year we’re encouraging everyone to enjoy nature safely while practicing social distancing that aligns with CDC guidelines. There are many ways to help our healthcare workers by getting our dose of nature and doing so safely!

5) Be a Citizen Scientist

Do you love science? Yeah, we do too. Just so happens that you can become a Citizen scientist and work alongside researchers that are working to solve some of our planet’s critical questions. Contribute in many ways and gain a deeper understanding of our parks. Check it out
