Join us for wine and conversation with wildlife spatial ecologist and PhD candidate, Nicole Gorman. Nicole will discuss her ongoing research on bobcats in Albemarle county!

More about Nicole:

Nicole Gorman is a wildlife spatial ecologist and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Tech. She has a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame and M.S. from Southern Illinois University, as well as wildlife research experience on species ranging from small mammals to carnivores. Her research aims to answer questions about animal movement and individual variation in these movement behaviors within populations and apply these answers to furthering conservation goals. Her current research focus is to improve methods to model wildlife corridors through mixed-use landscapes to promote functional habitat connectivity. In her current work, she has trapped and GPS-collared 17 bobcats from Albemarle County, Virginia. Movement data from these bobcats, as well as data from other bobcats and black bears previously collared throughout Virginia, will inform how animals navigate the natural and human-dominated landscapes in Virginia so that we may more efficiently conserve their habitat needs.
