Three guided hikes are planned for Rapidan Society and Skyline Circle donors this summer. Rapidan Society donors support their park with a gift of $1,000 or moreeach year, and Skyline Circle members support their park with a gift of $500 or more each year. These field trips allow you to observe some of the people, places and resources in their park that benefit from your investment. This summer, events will include three guided hikes:
Meet Your Park Interns
June 23 , 10:00 a.m., Big Meadows Wayside
Each year you help us fund six college interns who gain invaluable experience as park rangers in Shenandoah. Join us for a meet and greet and interpretive walk in Big Meadows.
Ginseng Poaching Hike in Shenandoah
Friday, July 28, 10:00 a.m.
Ginseng is a highly-regarded plant in eastern medicine, and it grows well in our park. But, its usefulness puts it at risk. Join us for a hike with a park biologist to learn about ginseng poaching and how your support helps to prevent it. Due to the sensitive nature of this hike, space is very limited and the hike location will be provided after registration.
Hike & Volunteer: Tree Resilience After Wildfire
Thursday, August 3, 10:00 a.m.
Support from the Shenandoah National Park Trust this year is funding research in your park on how certain important tree species respond after wildfires. Join a fire ecologist for a short hike into a wildfire area to collect samples and learn about this research in your park.
