Art in the Park Returns September 27-29

The Shenandoah National Park Trust will host the second annual Art in the Park: Scenes from Shenandoah in partnership with Delaware North, the park’s concessionaire, on September 27-29. This 3-day event invites park visitors and neighbors to explore the intersection of nature and art through free workshops and demonstrations in the Big Meadows Area.

This year’s event will feature:

  • Free public workshops taught by local artists and the park’s September Artist-in-Residence, with mediums ranging from watercolor, charcoal, and acrylic painting to photography, nature journaling, illustration, and more
  • An engaging pop-up gallery in the Big Meadows Lodge that will exhibit the works of past and present Artists-in-Residence
  • A ticketed Sip & Paint session on Skyland Resort’s outdoor terrace, led by Jamie Schwartz of Charlottesville’s Pikasso Swig, including wine and snacks
  • Live and silent art auctions and a cocktail reception at Quièvremont Winery & Vineyard in Rappahannock County on September 28th

Visitors of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate, and all supplies will be provided at the workshops.

“This event is about more than just making art,” said Jessica Cocciolone, Executive Director of the Shenandoah National Park Trust. “It’s about deepening our connection to the park and to each other through shared creative experiences.”

Co-host Delaware North operates Skyland and Big Meadows Lodges, as well as Waysides at Elk Wallow, Big Meadows, and Loft Mountain. The company has partnered with the Trust to provide workshop spaces and marketing support, enabling this event to be as accessible as possible to community members and park visitors.

“We always look forward to and enjoy collaborating with the SNP Trust,” said Wil Amaya, the General Manager for Delaware North. “We all feel the park is special, and sharing space for guests to enjoy and connect with it is important to us.”

This year’s Art in the Park sponsors and partners include F.T. Valley Farm, Luray Caverns, Martin Horn, LD&B Insurance and Financial Services, Oak View National Bank, and Arts Fairfax, as well as Douglas Ward & Earl Johnson, Leslie & Andrew Cockburn, and other SNPT supporters.

In honor of Public Lands Day, Shenandoah National Park will offer free admission on Saturday, September 28th.
