Kevin H. Adams Memorial Endowment

“I hope that this, and the work that I produce, will help others recognize the value of preserving our National Parks for future generations.” -Kevin H. Adams

Kevin H. Adams (1959-2023) was a beloved local landscape artist and a park neighbor from Rappahannock County.

He was an SNPT Artist-in-Residence in 2017 and continued to support the program as part of the Artist Selection Committee in following years.

This endowment, created in his memory by his husband, Jay Ward Brown, will support SNPT’s artistic programming, including the Artists-in-Residence as well as initiatives in and around Shenandoah that prioritize early-stage artists.

The Memorial Fund is designed to support Trust programs that “encourage, educate, or otherwise promote artists interested in Shenandoah National Park and its surroundings as the subject of their artwork.” The fund emphasizes mentoring emerging artists, a cause that was very important to Kevin.

Read the story of Kevin’s legacy in Shenandoah and Jay’s decision to honor him through this endowment on our blog, or in our 2024 Impact Report.

“I want my paintings to say: ‘I saw this, and it spoke to me, and I wanted to share my experience with you!’ I share a part of who I am. I can’t always articulate, when I begin a painting, what it is that I need to communicate, but in finishing a painting, I learn something about myself.” —K.H.A
