Project Title: Cold Water in a Warming World: Protecting Native Brook Trout

Project Purpose: to inform Park resource management decisions and protect native brook trout.

Project Goals:

  • to identify areas/streams in which to focus existing protection efforts in order to best protect brook trout populations
  • to educate and engage the public about the effects of climate change on Park resources
  • to document and understand the status and trends of brook trout populations and fill an information gap in the Park

Project Impact: 100 streams vulnerable to climate change will be assessed for the presence of brook trout and 40 citizen scientists will be engaged in data collection and informed of results. These results will inform Park resource management decisions and protect native trout.

Project Funding: $42,825

A special thank you to Bass Pro Shop and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund for supporting the brook trout conservation project.
